Important information about emergency calling with BaronTEL VoIP business telephone service
Please read this information carefully to understand the limitations and requirements for emergency 9-1-1 service with VoIP.
VoIP 9-1-1 service may not function during internet outages, power failures, or network issues. Always maintain an alternative communication method (cell phone) for emergencies.
Understanding the differences between traditional and VoIP emergency calling
9-1-1 calling is subject to failure during internet connection problems, network outages, or power failures. Traditional landlines may work when VoIP does not.
Emergency dispatchers may not automatically receive your exact location. You must be prepared to immediately provide your address and callback number.
BaronTEL strongly recommends keeping a cell phone or other backup communication device available for emergency situations.
What emergency dispatchers can and cannot see when you call 9-1-1
When calling 9-1-1, you MUST immediately tell the dispatcher your exact location and callback number, even if you think they already have this information. Do not assume your location is automatically provided.
Critical requirements to ensure emergency services can help you
You are responsible for providing and updating correct contact information including name, service address, and telephone number with your BaronTEL account.
When moving, you MUST immediately notify BaronTEL by email or telephone with your new address. Failure to update your address may prevent emergency responders from finding you.
Always be prepared to provide your exact address and callback number immediately when calling 9-1-1. Speak clearly and stay on the line until the dispatcher says it's safe to hang up.
To update your service address or contact information for emergency services:
🕒 Business Hours: Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM EST
Best practices for emergency preparedness with VoIP service
Keep a fully charged cell phone available. Consider a landline phone for critical locations. Ensure family members know how to use backup communication methods.
Consider an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for your internet modem and VoIP equipment to maintain service during brief power outages.
Post your exact address near all VoIP phones. Include apartment numbers, suite numbers, and any special access instructions for emergency responders.
BaronTEL is committed to providing reliable VoIP business telephone service while ensuring our customers understand the limitations of emergency calling with VoIP technology. We comply with all Canadian telecommunications regulations for emergency services and work continuously to improve emergency calling capabilities. For the highest level of emergency preparedness, we recommend maintaining backup communication methods in addition to your VoIP service.
